On May 16, 2009 two lesbians of color were brutally beaten in front of a club in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, NY. The Safe OUTside the System Collective of the Audre Lorde Project and Gays and Lesbians of Bushwick Empowered of Make the Road by Walking are organizing a protest with the women who were attacked against the 77th Precinct on Saturday June 6th @ 3PM @ the 77th Precinct. It will be @ St. Marks Avenue and Utica Avenue. Please come out and join us. The Safe OUTside the System Collective is the anti-violence branch of The Audre Lorde Project. ALP is a grassroots organizing center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Two Spirit, Questioning, and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color. S.O.S. works against preventing violence against LGBTSTGNCQ People of Color within People of Color Communities whether at the hands of other community members or police.Founded in 1998, GLOBE (Gays and Lesbians of Bushwick Empowered) combats institutional homophobia and the harassment, isolation and invisibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Bushwick and the surrounding neighborhoods. Make the Road by Walking is a 501(c)3, membership-led organization based in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Our members are primarily low-income Latino and African-American residents of Bushwick and surrounding communities.
