Kevin Powell Responds to Today’s Article
in the New York Daily News

“At a time in American politics when there is a great deal of mistrust and scrutiny of elected officials by the people, it is most unfortunate to see Congressman Edolphus Towns, Democrat in Brooklyn, New York, once again being questioned for unethical behavior. In the Friday, March 26, 2010 edition of the New York Daily News it has been reported that Mr. Towns tried to put $5 million in taxpayer dollars toward an abandoned building and a questionable nonprofit, with a salary for one of his aides who would not be showing up for work. This in a Congressional district that suffers from a lack of jobs and affordable housing, and one which has been hard hit by violence, crime, mortgage foreclosures, failing schools, and the AIDS epidemic. So the question begs itself: After 26 years in office, what is Mr. Towns doing and, just as critically, what is he thinking? Is he serving the interests of the people in this community, or is he simply representing the interests of friends and colleagues in his circle? The people need an answer, and they need it now.”
