A Message from the Always Witty Farai Chideya

Hi folks:

Thanks to “O Magazine” for putting me on the contributor’s page in the July issue and mentioning my writing sisters at The Finish Party. It’s nice to get a shout… and it’s also nice to shout… to take the mic.

My novel Kiss the Sky takes you inside the head of a black rock musician struggling to break onto the charts and overcome her demons.

We also follow her and the band through the U.S., Europe, and South Africa. But right now, I’m the one who’s on tour!

NEW YORK
On Tuesday June 23 (today), 7pm, I’m at the Studio Museum in Harlem, NYC.
On Wednesday June 24, 7pm, I’m part of the URB ALT festival, also in Harlem, with a staged reading with music!
PHILADELPHIA
On Thursday June 25, 7:30 pm, I’m at Philadelphia’s Free Library, Central Branch.
SAN FRANCISCO
On Monday June 29, 7pm, I’m at Bird & Beckett Books in San Francisco.
On Tuesday June 30, 6pm, I’m at the Book Passages store in the Ferry Building, also in San Francisco.
ATLANTA
On Saturday August 1, a bit down the road, I’m on a panel the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta.

Go to my blog to read about the launch of our MUSIC CHANNEL, social networking, Black Rock event, and more.
But first, a message from our sponsors…

Buy the book. Seriously.
Use this link to buy from Amazon for traditional paper books and Kindle sales, or go to indie seller Powell’s (here).
Or visit your favorite local bookstore, your B&N… go nuts.

Several of my friends have used Kindle to buy the book. One is reading it on the New York subway on his phone.

Please offer comments and reviews on sites including Amazon.

WHAT YOU’RE SAYING
I’ve gotten some very moving letters, but this one sticks with me the most:

I just finished reading Kiss the Sky and It was brilliant.

Your writing gives those of us who are on the margins a sense of belonging.

Angela Walker

(Thank you Angela and thanks for giving me permission to share your letter.) For those who haven’t yet read the book, you can check out the excerpt.

More at the blog.

Many thanks.

See you on the road.
