About The African Diaspora Heritage Trail Conference:

The ADHT Conference is part of an ongoing initiative to unite African descendents from all over the world, encourage the development of African Diaspora Heritage trails and promote stabilization of economies in Diaspora communities. The ADHT Annual Conference creates a unique and inspiring four-day learning environment where government officials, institutional representatives, historians, educators, artists, cultural policy analysts, architects, media, tourism marketing officials, preservationists and interested individuals?all committed to the development of viable African Diaspora heritage destinations may gather to explore trends, experience cultural expression, participate in professional development sessions, examine model heritage trail programs and enjoy networking with their colleagues.

Prize:
The winner will receive an opportunity to present essay, receive a $500 scholarship and an all expense paid trip to Bermuda to attend the 4th Annual African Diaspora Heritage Trail Conference being held July 26th to July 30th, 2008.

Eligibility:
Any college students working toward a Bachelor?s or Master?s Degree in the area of African American Studies at an accredited College or University. The students must submit a 5-7 page essay unpublished, the sole work of the entrant, and not be entered in any other concurrent contest. The deadline for entry is June 15th, 2008. Only essays written in English language will be judged. Essay must be no fewer than 1000 and no more than 2,000 words in length, and must be typewritten and double-spaced. Only ONE essay per student may be entered for this contest.

Topic:
“Why do you feel that continuing to spread the awareness and development of the African Diaspora is important to our society? Why it is important to you personally?”

Entry Fee:
There is no entry fee and no purchase of any kind is required to enter or win the contest.

Prize:
The trip will include a stay at one of Bermuda?s Resort Hotels, double occupancy (AP Plan ? Room, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner), roundtrip airfare for two (2) from one of Bermuda?s east coast gateway cities, as well as entry to the African Diaspora Heritage Conference from July 26th ? July 30th, 2008 This offer is valid July 25, 2008 through July 31st, 2008. The Bermuda Department of Tourism will be responsible for room taxes, gratuities, and your transfer to and from the airport. However, you will be responsible for any personal incidentals they may incur. This prize has no cash redemption value, is non-transferable and extensions will not be permitted.

THE WINNING ESSAY WILL BE PUBLISHED.

If you do not wish to have your essay published, please do not enter. The winner will also have the opportunity to read their essay during
the conference to attendees and speakers.

Judging:
Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, imagery, artistic quality, and mastery expression. There are no theme or style requirements. It is our desire to find essays that are passionate about the subject matter which you are writing about. Decisions of the judges are final. All entries become the property of the African Diaspora Heritage Trail and will not be returned.

We will not send you junk mail and we do not share addresses with anyone else. Please don’t forget to include your name, full mailing address, name of college or university, graduating year, and name of your African American Studies professor in your email. The contest ends on June 15, 2008 at 12:00pm. The winner will be notified by July 1st, 2008 by at BDOT representative.
