Omar Wasow offers a fresh perspective on the Spitzer Sex Scandal media blitz. Read his short article on TheRoot.com, where he identifies Jack Johnson as the first victim of the Mann Law now being used to oust Spitzer. According to Wasow, the Mann Law gave the FBI increased power to interfere in the private lives of consenting adults.
Though I am dismayed by the scandal Spitzer wrought – I’ve actually always been a fan of his bull-dog tactics and looked forward to his accomplishments as governor – I am thrilled that Patterson may be our next governor.
And there is a news story the Spitzer Scandal has silenced. According to the Political Punch blog on ABCNews.com:
“Clinton campaign finance committee member, former vice presidential candidate, and former Rep. Geraldine Ferraro, D-NY, told the Daily Breeze of Torrance, Ca., that, “If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”
Huh?
The Old Guard Democrats aligned with Hillary are ripping band-aids off all parts of that political donkey, and there are nasty racial scars underneath the bandages. Clinton and her supporters are doing more harm to the party – and to America – with each wound they reveal. Perhaps more harm than the most divisive conservative Republicans.
Think about it. Like Spitzer, Ferraro, the Clintons, and others working on the Hillary campaign are supposed to be above reproach. After all, the irony that Spitzer, of all public officials, is caught up in a prostitution scandal isn’t lost on anyone. Similarly, liberal Ferraro and the Clintons supposedly reject racialist language, support the achievements of the historically dispossessed, and wear the rainbow colors that celebrate our nation’s diversity with pride – yet each new sound-byte explodes like a bomb. And all those bombs are destroying the integrity of the folk who drop them.

Do I hear a GOP presidential attack ad looming? Something like: “Bill Clinton – sex scandal. Eliot Spitzer – sex scandal. Democrats – scandalous. They just don’t get it. Republican John McCain does.”
Wait, wait, wait! Not endorsing anybody here. I’m just saying …
