When I was a kid, a mean girl knocked the stuffing out of me and took my shoes. In the process of handing me a big old can of whoop-ass, she tore her new coat. Her mother brought her over to my house, demanding that my mother pay for the torn coat. I was outraged. I would have rather spent the money to get a bigger bully to hit her in the head with a rock (but that’s just me). Instead, my mother paid for the coat. It reminds me of the Clinton campaign, wanting Obama supporters to pay off her campaign debt. It is a hard pill to swallow.

Many of the donors to the Obama campaign are giving the little money they have to share because they are following a dream. It’s the first time that most of the donors have ever given money to a political campaign. They want to be a part of an historic moment. They are betting on their candidate, just as the Clinton supporters did because they wanted to be a part of an historic moment. To ask Obama donors to give some money to the campaign debts of the person who would do anything to tear at their dream is like asking somebody to pay for the bully’s coat. Mrs. Clinton, my family will only pay for one bully’s coat, or one bully’s campaign.

While it may look to Hillary supporters that the Obama campaign is not doing all it can to erase her debt, there is only so much that they can do. They can ask a lot of me, but I am challenged by that. As one of the senior citizens in my neighborhood says, “Obama would have to come to my house and bring Baby Jesus, and B.B. King with him, before I give a dime to that nonsense.”

Whenever I read something about this, and get the sense that the Clintons are holding their support for the presumptive Democratic Party nominee for ransom, my pulse quickens. All I can think about is that old-school mean girly, and that doggone coat.
