celebration… and vigilance

Two Black NFL coaches in the Superbowl. One brother to surely coach a Superbowl victory… One African American candidate with a real chance at victory. A woman candidate, a Latino candidate…

So much to celebrate today!

And to remember. As we joyously anticipate the upcoming contests, both athletic and political, involving prominent African Americans, let’s remember even Oprah was turned away from an exclusive women’s store when she dared go shopping without full makeup and entourage that, obviously to the shopgirl who refused to let her in, didn’t distinguish her from the rest of us, the sisters and brothers who love Oprah, the sisters and brothers Oprah loves. Let’s remember the sisters and brothers who won’t be here to celebrate our community’s victories with us this year because of police brutality. Let’s remember Sean Bell.
