The symposium will be preceded by a National Black Writers Concert Benefit on Friday evening at 9:00 pm with Ruby Dee, Mos Def, Guy Davis, Ruby Dee and others at the Highline Ballroom in Manhattan, 431 W 16th St., New York, NY 10011. Tickets are $35, doors open at 7 p.m., and the concert begins at 9 p.m. Advance ticket purchase is strongly suggested.

August Wilson Celebration brings together Authors, Scholars, Actors and fans of Dramatic Theater

The Bi-Annual National Black Writers Symposium, which is co-sponsored by the English Department, will be held at Medgar Evers College in the Founders Auditorium on Saturday, March 26 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The day long symposium includes readings by acclaimed actors Jeffrey Wright, star of A Free Man of Color and Top Dog/Under Dog, and Tanya Wright, author and a cast member of HBO?s True Blood. Participating speakers and panelists include Woodie King Jr., founder of the New Federal Theatre; playwrights Thomas Bradshaw and Ed Bullins; Professor Dale Byam, director of the film August in April; scholars Kimberly C. Ellis, Donald Gagnon and Paul Carter Harrison, and legal advisor Esmeralda Simmons.
