Police Shootings in Oakland and Bellaire, Texas / Bush’s Legacy

I joined Anthony Bradley of The Institute and Michael D. Cobb Bowen of The Conservative Brotherhood on today’s Bloggers’ Roundtable. Farai Chideya of NPR’s News and Notes moderates. Please listen to this 16 minute segment, during which we discuss Bush’s last scheduled press conference and his legacy.

We also discuss the killing of a young Black man on the BART train in Oakland, California. Oscar Grant was on his stomach with his hands behind his back when the officer stood over him and killed him. View the YouTube video if you can stand it.

In Bellaire, Texas, Robbie Tolan was shot by an officer in his own driveway, accused of carjacking the SUV he and a friend rode home from the local Jack in the Box, despite the fact that his parents came outside and stated that he was their son and in fact lived in that home and owned that car. He, too, was lying on the ground, though he was physically responding to the officer, looking up and questioning him, because the policeman was holding Tolan’s mother against the garage door. Brilliant appearance on N & N – too bad it’s being canceled.

Thanks, TO. I was struggling with a cold, so my big achievement was not coughing during the roundtable. 🙂

I think we’re all mourning the loss of “News & Notes.” Farai is amazing, and I think it’s one of the best shows on NPR. As much as I love them, I’d rather see those car guys from Boston canceled…
